How to Develop a Mission Statement

Example:

“My mission statement is ‘To glorify Jesus Christ through my living and my teaching. To awaken sleeping Christians to the opportunities and blessings of serving God.’ The reason that is my mission statement is if I want to be the most perfect worshipper of God I have to have a mission statement that gives action to that perfect worship, that great love for God. The statement ‘to awaken sleeping Christians’ is because I, myself, was a sleeping Christian for 38 years. I awoke to the fact that if I wanted to live the abundant life I needed to serve, get involved, and do something. I needed to put into action the way I felt.”

-Quentine Lofton

“…Clear the path for long-distance runners so no one will trip and fall, so no one will step in a hole and sprain an ankle. Help each other out. And run for it! (Hebrews 12:12-13 – The Message Bible)

Your mission can be defined singularly or be two-fold.

1. My life’s mission
2. My mission within the body of Christ.

Whether it is singular or two-fold you must take your place and serve within the body of Christ.

Mission: A natural extension of purpose, an assignment, duty or task mandated by purpose. Your mission is a calling or charge borne out of deep need, a personal response to who you are and why you are here.

Mission Statement: An action that fulfills your purpose and succinctly defines the assignment.
This statement is a living contract that motivates and energizes your efforts. It is the source of power and a connecting force between your purpose and your ultimate vision.

Mission Statement Example:

To glorify God through serving as Jesus served.

To encourage others with unconditional love to further the Kingdom of God.

To go, baptize, and teach with love.

To make a maximum impact for God building His Kingdom.

To glorify Jesus through my life and teaching, awakening Christians to the opportuni- ties and blessings in serving God.

How do I achieve my mission?
Don't confuse ambition with mission. Mission will always involve helping others.
