In Bucky’s latest sermon, he talked not only about how we spend and invest our time here on earth, but also about the ways we measure the significance of those ways.
He acknowledged that we tend to measure significance by size, visibility, influence, and results. The enemy would love to convince us that obscurity is equivalent to insignificance, and measurable outcomes are more valuable than meaningful obedience.
In whatever God has called someone to in any particular season of life, we must remember that “making the best use of time” doesn’t have to be measurable or visible, it just has to be obedient and honoring to Him.
Some of Jesus’s most memorable moments were individual conversations that were recorded by his disciples. Could not our most memorable or impactful moments be the individual, even seemingly obscure, conversations and interactions we get to have with people throughout our day or week?
Might that be one of the ways that we make “the best use of the time” we have been given to be a light and leave an impact on the people and in the places God has called us to in this season He has brought us to.
Mondays and Tuesdays have been full this past month of team dinners and volleyball games!
While I do love getting to share the encouragement and truths that the Lord shares with me, I also love getting to create a space and a regular rhythm with them to share a meal, laugh with one another, and dive into the word together.
I think in the same way our bodies can get accustomed to eating at the same times of day or certain foods, even learning to crave our morning coffee, I think our souls can learn to crave the habits and rhythms we find that feed it and replenish it.
I have found myself, and pray for them, that Monday nights become one of the rhythms that refresh and feed their soul.
Dad let me go solo with this one! The last few years, dad and I have spoken to the Samford students who are a part of the mentoring partnership with the Braves. Dad had another engagement this year so it may have been one of the first events that he handed over to me to take his place (at least for this year)!
Continuing our partnership with Valor this year, I had the opportunity to speak at the school retreat and spend a week teaching their 11th grade bible class.
Each event not only allowed me to use my gifts in such applicable ways, but they also allowed me to pour into students through both the more cultivated platform of a speaker and the more personable position of a teacher.
Our workshop this month brought in members of one church who has brought thousands of people through PLACE and another long time facilitator of PLACE who is looking to bring PLACE to a new church her and her husband recently joined.
Whether these workshops bring in people who are exploring the material for the first time or churches who have seen the evidence of its value, each training is a chance to put the tool in someone’s toolbox who can bring it to more people than we could ever reach on our own.
“Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best use of time. Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person”
